German Chancellor Does Not Wish to Repatriate Well-Integrated Syrian Refugees
Even after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed his reluctance to repatriate any well-integrated Syrian refugees in Germany, according to the German news agency.
Scholz stated in the podcast “End of the World and Filtered Coffee” that anyone who is well-integrated, speaks German, and has a work contract can feel safe in Germany. He added, “This also applies to Syrians… We will not ask them to leave their jobs and go back.”
Following the potential ousting of Assad, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser had already warned about the negative consequences for the German labor market, particularly in the health sector, if Syrian refugees were repatriated.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach spoke about more than 6,000 fully integrated Syrian doctors who are indispensable to the healthcare system.
