Sudan Events – Follow-up
The Sudanese Doctors Network announced that the shelling by the Rapid Support Forces militia targeting the Shala Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp resulted in the deaths of seven people, including four children, and injured 11 others with varying degrees of injuries.
This attack is part of a series of targeted shelling against civilians and IDP camps in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, according to the network.
In a statement on Saturday, the network said that targeting unarmed civilians in IDP camps poses a growing threat to the humanitarian situation in the city, which hosts tens of thousands of displaced people who have fled from conflicts in their regions, in addition to hundreds of thousands of local residents.
The Sudanese Doctors Network warned that continued shelling and attacks would lead to further displacement from the city of El Fasher, which is already experiencing a dire humanitarian situation. The city has become one of the conflict’s hotspots.
The network called on the Rapid Support Forces militia to comply with international resolutions calling for a cessation of shelling, blockades, and attacks against civilians.
It also pointed out that the repeated attacks on El Fasher have led to the death of hundreds of civilians in markets and forced the displacement of thousands of people from their homes, which have now turned into battle zones.
