Upcoming Economic Agreements Between Sudan and Russia

The Russian Federation has expressed interest in establishing strategic relations with Sudan, while Sudan’s Finance Minister, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, welcomed the development of these relations into a strategic cooperation partnership. During his meeting with Andrei Tchernofel, the Russian Ambassador and Special Envoy to the Republic of Sudan, on Tuesday, Dr. Ibrahim confirmed Sudan’s readiness to establish strategic economic cooperation with Russia, and expressed Sudan’s willingness to pay off any dues owed to Russia once the Russian Ministry of Finance determines a payment mechanism.
In turn, the Russian Ambassador revealed official arrangements for the visit of three delegations from the Russian Chamber of Commerce to Sudan in the coming period. The delegations will coordinate with relevant government authorities to sign agreements in the fields of energy, ports, and electricity. The Russian side is keen to invest in infrastructure, and has called for the identification of Sudan’s priorities, considering a balanced development of the targeted sectors.
