Gum Arabic Traders in West Kordofan Call for Road Security and Enforcement of State Authority
Sudan Events – Follow-up
Gum arabic traders in West Kordofan have urged the state governor, Major General (ret.) Mohamed Adam Jade, to enforce state authority and secure the national roads linking production areas to export locations. They emphasized that this measure would facilitate the movement of traders, investors, and companies to production areas.
Spokesperson for the gum arabic traders in the state, Mastour Mohamed Balila, indicated that the quantities arriving from producers are currently good, and are fully purchased by local traders. However, he attributed this to the current security challenges and prolonged telecommunications outages, which have hindered investors and companies from reaching markets.
Balila explained that these circumstances have led to a decline in prices compared to last year, with the price of a quintal of gum arabic currently being 200,000 Sudanese pounds in cash and 220,000 pounds via electronic payment.
He expressed hope that the state’s security committee would be able to enforce state authority, secure national roads, and resolve telecommunications issues, which would allow investors to easily access production areas.
