American Sanctions on Al-Burhan: Sudanese Reactions Continue to Reject
Sudan Events – Agencies
Reactions rejecting the American sanctions on Sudan’s Sovereign Council President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, have been mounting, with calls to organize a public march demonstrating the people’s support for their leader in the fight against the Rapid Support Forces militia.
The Sudanese Armed Forces issued a statement condemning the decision as unjust and outrageous, calling it “against the leader of the Sudanese nation and the commander of the national dignity war, which our forces and people are fighting against the mercenaries and the terrorist militia of the Al-Daqlo family.”
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement condemning and rejecting the decision by the U.S. Treasury, considering it equates the national army, which is carrying out its constitutional duties, with the terrorist militia.
Minister of Information’s Statement
For his part, the Minister of Culture and Information and government spokesperson, Khaled Al-Eseir, said that the United States, which has frequently stated since the beginning of the war that the Sudanese army is weak and that the war in Sudan would not be resolved militarily, had made every diplomatic and political effort through its envoys to several countries to spread this false understanding, now comes back to impose sanctions on the official army commander and defender of his country’s people under Sudan’s constitution after the army broke the backbone of the rebellion.
Al-Eseir confirmed that “the U.S. decision against Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, lacks legal legitimacy and is nothing more than another futile attempt to undermine the will of an entire nation.”
He pointed out that Sudan will remain steadfast and strong in the face of pressures and threats and will not bow to foreign interference.
He added: “Justice does not come from the oppressors, and the Sudanese people will remain protectors of their land and fate, supporting their army and leader until victory.”
General Intelligence Service Statement
The Sudanese General Intelligence Service also rejected and condemned the decision issued by the U.S. Treasury, describing it as “lacking the basic standards of justice and fairness, relying on false claims that have no connection to reality.” They added that the decision comes “at a time when we were hoping the outgoing U.S. administration would use its influence and international weight to pressure the rebel militia and its supporting entities to stop the war and end the suffering of Sudanese citizens.”
The General Intelligence Service considered that the decision “threatens the peace and stability of the country, and constitutes a blatant violation of the will of the Sudanese people, who have rallied around the armed forces and their commander-in-chief, the symbol of sovereignty and protector of the homeland, who has been leading the dignity battle against the terrorist militia.”
Democratic Union Party
For its part, the Chair of the leadership of the Democratic Union Party, Ishraqah Sid Mahmoud, stated that the Democratic Union Party, led by the late Sharif Zain Al-Abidin Al-Hindi, condemns and denounces this unjust decision to impose sanctions against the President of the Sovereign Council.
A statement from the party said: “This decision is against Sudan and the Sudanese people in their sovereignty, army, and president. It was expected after the sanctions were imposed against the militia leader; it was known that the circles supporting the militia and the American power centers would seek to issue a similar decision against the army leader. Unfortunately, the American decision has become captive to the financial influence of imperialism in its worst modern forms, far from institutions and justice.”
The statement pointed out that this American policy equates the criminal militia with the national army, equates the genocide committed by the militia with the army’s right to defend its people and country, and equates truth and falsehood, defeating justice and supporting oppression.
The party affirmed that President Al-Burhan led the army and fought the war courageously without compromise, and he is now the symbol of victory and resilience. The people will fight alongside him to defeat the rebellion and the unjust American decisions, which will not be worth the ink with which they were written.”
The Broad Islamic Trend
A statement from the “Broad Islamic Trend” described the U.S. sanctions against the President of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces as “a desperate and futile attempt to undermine Sudan’s sovereignty by targeting the symbol of sovereignty and trying to harm the Sudanese Armed Forces and their supporting forces by targeting their head and symbol.”
The statement called on “all political and societal forces and activists, in the face of this major challenge, to unite behind the Sudanese Armed Forces and the joint forces, to forget minor differences, raise the national spirit, and stand together to complete a victory that is imminent, and to engage in the battle of reconstruction and mending the social fabric to achieve comprehensive recovery, turning the war hardship into an opportunity for building with a determined spirit and strong will to overcome difficulties and create miracles, to build a free, proud, and dignified nation.”
The statement further emphasized: “God has willed that the victory of the Armed Forces and the Sudanese people will not be tainted by any American support, which could be a germ that contaminates their future, but it is a victory, as Al-Azhari said, ‘like a Chinese plate, with no cracks or blemishes.’”
It concluded: “The Broad Islamic Trend affirms that the Sudanese people have rallied behind their national army in the dignity battle against the terrorist militia of the Al-Daqlo family, and that the recent decision by the U.S. administration will only strengthen the people’s cohesion and support for the Armed Forces and their supporting forces, who are moving from victory to victory and taking the final steps toward the final defeat of the Rapid Support Forces and their allies.”
