Sudanese Foreign Ministry Urges Sudanese Nationals in South Sudan to Exercise Caution

Sudan Events – Follow-ups

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its grave concern over the escalating situation in the capital of South Sudan, Juba, and other cities due to the attacks on Sudanese citizens, their property, and businesses.

The ministry confirmed that these events were accompanied by widespread incitement campaigns against Sudanese nationals. It called on all members of the Sudanese community residing in South Sudan to remain vigilant and cautious.

In a statement, the Ministry said: “In this context, we appreciate the wisdom shown in President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s address regarding the unfortunate events in Juba and his call for calm and non-violence, emphasizing the need to seek justice through lawful means without violating the rights of others. These are the same values and principles called for by the President of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in his announcement of the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the events and hold the perpetrators accountable, ensuring they do not escape punishment.”

The statement continued: “The ministry wishes to commend the important and constructive role played by the security, military, and police agencies in South Sudan in maintaining security, preventing disorder, and protecting citizens’ properties. We also call upon all political, community, media, and religious leaders in South Sudan to do their part in restoring the situation to normalcy, as dictated by the bonds of neighborhood, kinship, and shared culture.”

It emphasized that what unites the peoples of the two brotherly nations is coexistence and deep-rooted love, urging all to thwart attempts to sow division, strife, and hostility between the two nations. The statement concluded: “What happened is just a passing cloud, and it will not weaken our resolve to strengthen and advance the evolving bilateral relations between the two countries.”
