Real Madrid President: I Was not Prepared for This Decision

Real Madrid officially announced, on Saturday, a decision honoring club president Florentino Pérez, during the club’s extraordinary general assembly.
“The 2023 Extraordinary General Assembly approved by acclamation the proposal drafted by more than 1,000 representative members, in accordance with Article 28 of the Statutes, according to which the name of the Sports City (Valdebebas) is changed to Real Madrid Florentino Pérez.” Said the Spanish club said in a statement on its official website.
Real Madrid members also agreed to extend the authorization granted to the club’s board of directors to borrow in order to finance the works at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The result of the vote, in which 1,632 members participated, was: 1,569 votes in favor, 25 votes against, and 38 abstentions, meaning that 96.13% of the votes were in support of the decision.
“It is an honor, of course, but you know that I have never sought to obtain this honor. I would like the name to be put when I say it, because I am not yet psychologically prepared to see my name written there.” Peres thanked the General Assembly.
“We decided some time ago as a board of directors not to address this matter, but the club’s rules provide you with the right to choose.” He added.
