Since the liberation of the capital of the Gezira State, the city of Wad Madani, both military and civilian forces have raced to restore normalcy. Emergency teams have started burying the dead, removing landmines, and clearing remnants of the war. These days, Wad Madani is witnessing a significant voluntary return of displaced people, with increased efforts in reconstruction plans, the reopening of public services, commercial banks, passport offices, and markets. Many government and commercial banks, along with airlines, have announced the reopening of their offices in the city liberated from the militia’s grip.
A Great Challenge: A major challenge remains in the villages west of Madani, where the Rapid Support Forces’ militia continues to have a presence. To preserve the great victory, it is essential for the forces to advance towards Al-Hassahisa and extend their presence in these villages, reaching the outskirts of Khartoum, ensuring the complete stability of the Gezira state, and continuing to support services after clearing the villages. Once the militia is defeated in Wad Madani, there will be no further threats to the capital of Gezira.
State Government is Present: The Secretary-General of the Gezira State Government, Murtada Ahmed Al-Bili, affirmed that the honor of participating in the liberation of Wad Madani was a national task, carried out by both military and civilian forces. Joyful celebrations have spread beyond the borders, wherever there is a Sudanese community.
In press statements, Al-Bili revealed that the reconstruction plan focuses on all service sectors, with special attention from the highest state authorities and citizens. Priority will be given to electricity, water, health, and reviving the economic activity. He mentioned ongoing efforts to expedite the return of the state’s residents. The Secretary-General also highlighted the efforts to clear war remnants, bury the bodies, eliminate stray dogs, and disinfect the area. He pointed out that the kidney hospital in Wad Madani is operating at full capacity, while the surgery and maternity hospitals are operating at over 50% capacity, with work underway to fill the gaps in all medical facilities.
On the other hand, the children’s hospital requires additional efforts, and the heart center needs some work, as mentioned by the Secretary-General. He called on all residents of the state to participate in the reconstruction and rebuilding social cohesion, while fighting the rhetoric of hatred. He praised the role of expatriates in supporting families and alleviating financial hardship, hoping that the contributions for the reconstruction effort would continue through funds and other bodies, or even ideas and visions.
Customs Support: A delegation from the Support and Assistance Convoy, led by Brigadier General Babiker Mohamed Qassem Allah, Secretary-General of the Police Services Fund, along with Colonel Dr. Saad Mousa Mohamed from the Media and Public Relations Department, and other officers, visited the customs administration in the Gezira state in Wad Madani. They observed the damage caused by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces militias, which destroyed infrastructure and state institutions.
In-kind Support: The customs administration organized an in-kind support program for the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces after the liberation of Wad Madani. Brigadier General Babiker confirmed that the visit was aimed at assessing the damage and inspecting the conditions of the stationed forces since the liberation. He congratulated them on their victories and received detailed explanations about the situation. Brigadier General Babiker emphasized the importance of the General Director of Customs Forces’ interest in resuming work in the Gezira state as soon as possible, setting up a committee that visited the customs headquarters and the dry port to assess the needs and expedite their provision.
