Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between the International Contractors Association and the African Union of Construction and Building Contractors

A strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the International Contractors Association and the African Union of Construction and Building Contractors. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise, and develop sustainable partnerships that support African economies and foster growth in this vital sector.

This MoU was based on an agreement between the two parties on the importance of cooperation, which was discussed during the General Assembly of the International Contractors Association held in Paris last year. The event was attended by the heads of regional associations and key figures in the construction sector. The MoU was signed by Juan Armando, President of the International Contractors Association, and Engineer Hassan Abdelaziz, President of the African Union of Construction and Building Contractors.

Dr. Malik Ali Dengla, Advisor to the African Union of Construction and Building Contractors for International Relations, explained that the agreement reflects both parties’ commitment to strengthening international relations and unifying efforts to develop infrastructure and improve quality and safety standards in construction projects.

He stated that this partnership is a significant step toward integrating global and African markets in the construction sector. The MoU is expected to bring a qualitative leap in infrastructure development and construction services across Africa, opening new horizons for economic and social development.

Dr. Dengla emphasized that the MoU seeks to unify efforts in developing major projects across Africa, attract both foreign and local investment, and focus on implementing sustainable practices that protect the environment and support sustainable development goals.

He added that this initiative is part of a series of efforts aimed at enhancing international cooperation in the construction sector, fostering sustainable growth, creating local and regional job opportunities, and laying the groundwork for long-term development.

Notably, the MoU includes several key provisions, primarily knowledge transfer and expertise exchange. It aims to share best practices and advanced global construction techniques, promote training and professional development, and collaborate on specialized training programs to enhance workforce skills across the African continent. Additionally, it seeks to encourage investment, foster regional cooperation, support joint projects between global and African companies, and strengthen the role of local firms in executing major projects. The agreement also emphasizes environmental sustainability by adopting green and sustainable building standards in line with global sustainable development goals.
