Messi: I Never Felt Happy at Paris Saint-Germain

Argentine football star Lionel Messi revealed that he never felt happy during his two-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain. He stated that he is now thriving both on and off the field in Miami.
According to the British news agency PA Media, Messi, 37, who has won the Ballon d’Or eight times, joined Inter Miami—partly owned by David Beckham—in July 2023 after a turbulent period in the French capital.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Messi said:
“Coming to play for Inter Miami was an opportunity, and given how things unfolded in my last years in Paris, even though it was a decision I had to make because I had to leave Barcelona, I went through two years where I didn’t enjoy myself.”
He added:
“I never felt happy, whether in training or matches. I struggled to adapt to everything. I felt drawn to coming to Inter because the club is growing, and it’s very new, having been founded just a few years ago.”
Messi, who helped Miami win the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2024 before they were eliminated in the playoffs by Atlanta United, also mentioned that his family enjoys life in Florida.
“I liked the idea of coming here and helping the team become a great club. I also knew this was a city where my family and I would enjoy living,” he said.
He continued:
“Even though I didn’t know the city well because I had only visited a few times, I had family and friends who did, and I thought the timing was right. I don’t regret it—on the contrary, I’m happy with my decision.”
