Prime Minister Dr. Kamal Idris has called on religious and community components, particularly the Sudanese Council of Churches, to combat hate speech, raise public awareness, and strengthen ties among all societal groups across the country. He stressed that unifying the internal front is one of the government’s top priorities in the upcoming period.
During a meeting in Port Sudan on Monday with a delegation from the Sudanese Council of Churches led by Reverend Ezz Al-Din Al-Tayeb, the Prime Minister discussed ways to create a suitable environment for national reconciliation and promote values of tolerance.
For his part, Reverend Ezz Al-Din expressed, in press statements following the meeting, the Council’s support for the Armed Forces, voicing hope that the military would achieve victory and that the Prime Minister would succeed in his efforts to lead the country forward during the transitional period.
He stated that the Council’s delegation includes representatives from the Catholic, Evangelical, and Pentecostal churches, noting that the meeting addressed issues and concerns of Christians in the country.
The Reverend affirmed the Council’s interest in promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence among communities, and social cohesion, while emphasizing the importance of justice as a need for all citizens.
