The Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdul Wahid Mohammed has imposed tolls ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 Sudanese pounds on vehicles using the Nierteti–Zalingei road in Central Darfur State, following its reopening.
One vehicle owner told “Darfur24” on Tuesday that the SLM-Abdul Wahid faction allowed them to pass through the Nierteti–Zalingei road on Monday under strict security measures.
He noted that the movement had set up military checkpoints at the entrances and exits of areas under its control, where it collects 100,000 SDG from large vehicles and 50,000 SDG from smaller ones.
He added: “At the first checkpoint, they asked me for 50,000 pounds and issued a ‘search warrant’ that did not mention the amount. Upon reaching the final checkpoint, they demanded another 50,000 pounds in exchange for the search warrant paper.”
