A Sudanese civilian delegation announced that it had submitted a memorandum to the African Union Commission, calling for support for Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue and for the active participation of women in the peace process.
On Saturday, the delegation handed the memo to Elwad Elmi, Senior Policy Officer at the Women’s Rights Unit of the African Union Commission.
Salima Ishaq, a member of the delegation and head of the Family and Child Protection Unit, told “Al-Tara Sudan” that the purpose of delivering the memo to the African Union is to help end the war by amplifying a distinct civilian voice.
Salima explained that she joined the delegation as a representative of an independent civilian group. She added, “As Sudanese women, we stand to benefit the most from peace and the end of war, because women are the most severely affected by its devastation.”
She emphasized that any peace agreement must respect Sudan’s sovereignty and unity, stressing the importance of understanding the current situation and acknowledging the true narrative of the war.
