On Sunday, the Sovereign Council’s Advisor for Organizations and Humanitarian Work, Lt. Gen. Al-Sadiq Ismail Mahmoud, met with Mamadou Dian Balde, UNHCR’s Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes.
In a press statement, Mamadou Dian Balde expressed deep appreciation for the Sudanese government’s cooperation with the UNHCR on refugee issues, noting the significant challenges Sudan is facing due to the ongoing war.

He pointed out that more than 4 million Sudanese have fled the horrors and devastation of war to neighboring countries, saying:
“We value the efforts of these countries that have hosted large numbers of Sudanese and provided them with essential services. We view this with great appreciation and are working in coordination with them to reach these refugees.”
Mamadou Dian Balde also highlighted the importance of voluntary return for Sudanese refugees, made possible through joint coordination between the government and its partners.
