The Federal Emergency Operations Center held its weekly meeting on Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum, where it reviewed the health situation in the country due to epidemics during the period from July 5 to 11.
The meeting revealed the registration of 674 new cholera cases, including 13 deaths, across 33 localities in 12 states. This brings the cumulative number of infections to 87,762 cases, including 2,264 deaths across 111 localities in 17 states.
The epidemiological report also confirmed 28 new cases of dengue fever over the past week, all in Khartoum State, which requires urgent intervention.
Regarding measles, the report recorded 68 new cases, with no deaths, across 18 localities in 7 states. Meanwhile, the cumulative number of heatstroke cases reached 13, including 3 deaths in the Red Sea and Northern States.
Federal Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim stated that significant challenges persist despite the ongoing interventions. He called for a focused approach to the rainy season and its emergencies, including convening a meeting for high-level seasonal coordination and activating emergency rooms in all states—actions aligned with the Prime Minister’s directives.
He also urged intensified efforts to address the dengue fever outbreak in Khartoum State and immediate intervention for the cholera situation in the Blue Nile Region.
