On Thursday, the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sudan, Hany Salah, in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin.
In a press statement, Ambassador Hany described the meeting as cordial and positive. He noted that he conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Sovereignty Council President. Al-Burhan, in turn, asked him to convey his greetings and thanks to President El-Sisi for hosting him in the city of El Alamein on June 30.
The meeting addressed the outcomes of the El Alamein summit, which, according to the ambassador, will have a significant impact on the path of bilateral relations.
He also briefed Al-Burhan on recent developments in Sudanese-Egyptian relations, noting that the Joint Ministerial Trade Committee between the two countries will convene soon, along with the Egypt-Sudan Business Forum. He reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent and steadfast support for Sudan in all regional and international forums and highlighted Egypt’s efforts to stand by Sudan in various arenas.
Ambassador Hany stated that General Al-Burhan reaffirmed Sudan’s full support and solidarity with Egypt regarding the existential and strategic issue of the Nile waters. He also emphasized ongoing coordination at the highest levels between the two countries, particularly between their foreign and irrigation ministers, given the current developments that may not serve the interests of either nation.
He concluded, “We look forward to the convening of the 2+2 mechanism between the foreign and irrigation ministers of both countries in the near future.”
