Khartoum Security Committee Discusses Withdrawal of Armed Forces

The Khartoum State Security Coordination Committee met on Thursday, chaired by Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, and affirmed its support for community policing, seen as the foundation of local security operations starting at the neighborhood level. The meeting followed a report presented by the Assistant Director-General of Police on community policing efforts.

According to the report, there are currently 119 operational community police centers across the state, with 254 additional centers under development.

The committee stressed the importance of completing the structure of community policing to ensure coverage across the entire state.

The meeting also reviewed a criminal security report, which showed a decline in crime rates and incident reports, thanks to the spread of security forces and the effectiveness of joint patrols.

Additionally, the committee called for the continuation of campaigns to regulate and remove foreign nationals from Khartoum, assigning the Department of Foreign Affairs to lead in this task.

A new committee was also formed to monitor the transportation of furniture and personal belongings, ensuring that citizens’ and institutions’ rights are not infringed.

The meeting directed relevant authorities to support efforts to dismantle barricades in neighborhoods and side streets. It also decided to regulate market operations and enforce rules against encroachment on public roads to facilitate traffic flow.

The committee commended the effectiveness of “security cordons” in areas with high rates of violations, which led to the seizure of drugs and weapons and the arrest of several collaborators. It also recommended campaigns to combat begging and homelessness.

Lastly, the committee reviewed the arrangements being implemented to evacuate all armed forces from the state, based on the Sovereign Council President’s decision to form a high-level committee to prepare the environment for the return of citizens to Khartoum State.
