Political Forces Reject UAE Participation in Quartet Meeting

On Thursday, Sudanese political forces announced their rejection of the United Arab Emirates’ participation in the upcoming Quartet meeting in Washington.

The UAE, alongside Saudi Arabia and Egypt, is set to participate in a meeting hosted by the United States on July 29, aimed at exploring solutions to end the conflict in Sudan.

The coalition included the National Movement Forces, Sudan Justice Alliance, the Coordination of the Return to the Founding Platform, the Democratic Unionist Party – Supreme Leadership Authority, the Popular Congress Party, the National Unionist Party, and the Sudanese Women’s Gathering. They convened to discuss the political situation and the upcoming Quartet meeting.

In a joint statement, the political groups declared that “the UAE is morally unqualified to be part of any mediation effort aimed at resolving the crisis in Sudan, as it is a principal supporter of the militias — referring to the Rapid Support Forces — with weapons, equipment, and mercenaries.”

The statement further accused the UAE of being complicit in the aggression, destruction, and devastation that has befallen Sudan through its backing of the RSF and foreign mercenaries.

The political forces stated their opposition to foreign interference that undermines Sudan’s sovereignty and national decision-making. They reaffirmed their commitment to a national solution, with assistance from regional and international partners, stressing that the crisis must be resolved through an inclusive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue that excludes no political actor, to ensure the unity, sovereignty, and security of the country.
