Civilian Casualties in al-Hilu Movement Shelling on Kadugli

At least two civilians were killed and three others wounded on Sunday in heavy artillery shelling carried out by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM–N) led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu on residential neighborhoods in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State.

Local sources told Darfur24 that eleven artillery shells struck the neighborhoods of An Bataah, Hajar Balila, and al-Salamāt in the northern part of the city, causing both human casualties and extensive material damage.

They reported that the bombardment began at around 11:30 a.m. and continued until 1:00 p.m., marking one of the longest attacks on the city since the outbreak of the war.

“It’s the first time we’ve seen shelling last for more than an hour… the sound of the explosions shook the neighborhoods, and residents were in a state of extreme fear,” said one eyewitness, noting that all the shells fell in densely populated residential areas.
