Ministry of Trade Responds to Chamber of Commerce Complaints with Key Reforms

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdalla

Ali Salah, President of the Sudanese Chamber of Commerce, urged the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Ali Yaqoub, to address the excessive delays and bureaucratic hurdles in the approval process of preliminary invoices.

In an effort to ease import-related challenges, Salah contacted the minister on Wednesday regarding what he described as deliberate obstruction by the import department, which had led to backlogs and long queues of importers at the ministry.

Salah confirmed that the minister responded positively to the complaint and implemented changes, including the replacement of the import director and revisions to some procedures. She assured that these reforms would help ease the bottlenecks and ensure the process becomes faster and more efficient.

Salah reiterated that the Chamber of Commerce remains committed to resolving any issues affecting its member chambers.

Meanwhile, business leader Moawia Aba Yazeed, head of the Employers’ Association, called for the complete suspension and cancellation of preliminary invoice approvals, arguing that the procedure serves no real purpose and only delays import operations.
