Savings Bank Funds Thousands of War-Affected Families

The Director of the Microfinance Department at the Savings and Social Development Bank, Ahmed Mohamed Musa, announced that preparations are underway to finance thousands of impoverished families as part of the government’s initiative to facilitate the return of citizens to Khartoum State. He noted that ongoing meetings are being held with social development partners, with the official launch expected in the coming days.
Musa highlighted that the “Partner Solidarity Agreement to Finance Producers Benefiting from Direct Cash Support”, signed in early June in the city of Kassala, includes the Savings Bank, the Zakat Chamber, and the Poverty Reduction Commission. The initial phase targets 6,000 beneficiaries across three states: Gedaref, Blue Nile, and Khartoum.
“Given the significant role the Savings Bank plays within the state and society,” Musa stated, “the bank was selected as one of the mechanisms to implement the directives of the committee formed by the President of the Sovereignty Council to prepare the environment for the return of Khartoum’s residents.” Accordingly, the bank is planning to finance 8,000 families in the first phase, in coordination with development partners, in addition to the 6,000 beneficiaries previously mentioned.
He also praised the support and facilitation provided by Khartoum State’s Minister of Social Development, Siddig Farini, who is closely following the activities of both the higher and subcommittees overseeing this large-scale financing effort.
