‘Democratic Bloc’ Condemns Global Silence Over Militia Siege of Cities

The Democratic Bloc alliance condemned the international community’s silence over the worsening humanitarian situation in the cities of El Fasher, Kadugli, Dilling, and Babnousa.

These cities have been under prolonged siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have blocked the delivery of aid to civilians, further aggravating the crisis.

In a statement issued after a Saturday meeting chaired by Jaafar al-Mirghani, the bloc called for stronger measures to lift the sieges and to impose sanctions on the RSF and its allies.

The meeting addressed humanitarian and political issues in Sudan and heard reports from specialized committees.

The bloc praised the African Peace and Security Council’s statement affirming its support for Sudan’s unity and rejecting the so-called “parallel government” announced by the RSF and its allies. It urged the African Union to take punitive measures against member states supporting the RSF, calling such actions a blatant violation of the AU’s founding charter.

It also stressed that any comprehensive solution and roadmap must be built on the principles of preserving Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty; recognizing its legitimate institutions; dismantling the RSF; integrating all armed forces into the Sudanese Armed Forces; and achieving a democratic civilian transition through an inclusive Sudanese dialogue that leads to a just and sustainable peace.

The bloc emphasized that major national decisions must be made in consultation with national forces, warning against amending the Constitutional Document without consulting political stakeholders, as it would harm the national interest. It also called for expediting the formation of transitional period institutions, foremost among them the Legislative Council, to oversee the government and pass laws enabling democratic transformation.
