Meeting Discusses Costs of Return to Khartoum

The committee tasked with the financial arrangements for creating conditions for citizens’ return to Khartoum State stressed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary funding for priority basic services — health, water, education, electricity, and alternative energy.

The committee, chaired by Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Jibril Ibrahim and including the Minister of State, the Central Bank Governor, and the Finance Ministry Undersecretary, met Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters to discuss mobilizing local resources and securing external financing for the rehabilitation of public hospitals, provision of medicines, environmental sanitation — including clearing war debris, disinfection, and vector control — ensuring safe drinking water, refurbishing schools, and supplying electricity and solar power systems.

The meeting agreed to review funding for these priorities through relevant government resources, alongside coordination with the banking sector, community initiatives, and state governments to provide in-kind support — particularly school furniture and solar power units. The committee also decided to identify both cash and in-kind funding needs (such as medicines, medical equipment, and supplies) to tap into regional and international financing opportunities available to countries affected by conflict.

The committee’s membership includes the Internal Audit Bureau, the Accounts Bureau, Economic Security, Khartoum State, and all relevant bodies.
