Energy Minister Expects Power to Return to Large Parts of Khartoum Soon

The second meeting of the High Committee for Preparing the General Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State convened on Saturday, chaired by committee head and Sovereignty Council member, Lt. Gen. Eng. Ibrahim Jaber. The meeting was attended by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, alongside its full membership, which includes most federal ministers, the Central Bank of Sudan, the Employers’ Union, and the governors of Nile River and Gezira states.

The meeting reviewed reports from service committees, including electricity, water, and health. The Minister of Energy and the ministry’s undersecretary presented details of the damage sustained by the distribution, transmission, and transformer sectors. They also highlighted efforts made to repair substations and transmission lines.

The ministry projected that electricity will soon return to large areas of Khartoum, Bahri, and East Nile, with priority given this month to restoring power to water stations, hospitals, and residential neighborhoods.

On water services, the committee assessed Khartoum State’s efforts to rehabilitate major water plants in Bahri, Mogran, Soba, Jebel Aulia, Beit Al-Mal, and North Bahri. Authorities announced that Soba Water Plant is now operating at full capacity, while the other plants have resumed partial operations and are expected to reach full capacity in the coming days.

In the health sector, the Federal Ministry of Health’s undersecretary outlined an emergency plan focusing on environmental sanitation, disease vector control, primary healthcare centers, hospital rehabilitation, medical equipment, and operational support. The committee instructed the media committee to highlight these achievements to encourage citizens’ return.
