Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris has issued an official appeal to the Colombian people and all Spanish-speaking communities, calling on them to stop the recruitment of mercenaries and their deployment to the Darfur region. He emphasized that such practices prolong the war and exacerbate civilian suffering.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said:
“With a spirit of creativity, solidarity, and commitment to peace, I address this appeal to you to stand with us in ending the siege of Al-Fashir and to halt the recruitment and deployment of mercenaries to our lands. Sudan needs your support for peace, not more bloodshed.”
Idris praised the position of the Colombian President, who called for an end to the recruitment of Colombian mercenaries in Darfur, describing it as a demonstration of high moral and political responsibility and a step toward broader cooperation to halt negative interventions in the Sudanese conflict.
The Prime Minister highlighted the contributions of Spanish-speaking communities to humanity in the fields of arts and literature, from Pablo Picasso’s paintings and Pablo Neruda’s poetry to the works of Gabriel García Márquez and Mario Vargas Llosa. He stated:
“The noble values expressed through your culture—peace, love, and stability—are exactly what we need today.”
He stressed that recruiting mercenaries is not merely a military act but a humanitarian and moral crime, violating international law and worsening the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. He called on both peoples and governments to take responsibility for ending this practice.
Idris concluded his statement by affirming that Sudan faces a major ordeal but remains committed to peace as a strategic choice, saying:
“We trust that shared human values will prevail over the forces of war and destruction, and we urge you to stand with us at this historic moment to build a future defined by peace and stability.”
