The UN General Assembly will hold its 80th annual session in September at the UN headquarters in New York, starting on September 9. High-level meetings are scheduled from September 23 to 27, with the session concluding on September 29.
According to sources obtained by Al-Muhaqiq, the Sudanese conflict will be a central topic alongside other global crises, including the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, as well as discussions on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, international peace and security, nuclear proliferation, climate change, environmental issues, and anti-corruption measures.
Preparations for Sudan’s delegation have reportedly been underway for some time. A diplomatic source told Al-Muhaqiq that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with relevant embassies and stakeholders, has finalized the country’s agenda files and speech preparations. Although the source did not disclose the head of the delegation, the permanent mission in New York has received multiple requests for meetings between Sudanese officials and their counterparts and international institution representatives.
The source noted that Sudan’s participation is expected to carry particular significance given the country’s delicate humanitarian situation, caused by RSF atrocities, the siege of key cities, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid during a war that has lasted over two years.
