Sudan Explores Mining Cooperation at Great Lakes Meetings

A Sudanese delegation from the Ministry of Minerals—represented by the Geological Research Authority and the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company—took part in the regular meetings of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), held this week in Entebbe, Uganda.
Omar Osman, the delegation’s head and senior geological advisor, said Sudan has maintained consistent participation in the organization’s meetings, reaffirming Khartoum’s commitment to strengthening technical and mining cooperation with member states.
Discussions focused on drafting a new strategy for managing the gold sector, particularly in regulating artisanal and small-scale mining. The meetings also reviewed the implementation of previous protocols and prepared for an expanded ministerial gathering scheduled in Kinshasa at the end of next month.
The ICGLR comprises 12 member states, including Sudan, and works to enhance regional cooperation in security, natural resources, and economic development.
