Efforts Underway to Restart Refinery and Provide Petroleum Products

Minister of Energy and Petroleum Eng. Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed on Tuesday inspected maintenance and rehabilitation work at the Khartoum Oil Refinery, accompanied by Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Mohy El-Din Naim and senior officials from the ministry and electricity companies. This marked his first visit since assuming office.
The minister toured Sudanese Petroleum Pipelines Company facilities, receiving a detailed briefing on the destruction sustained and progress of rehabilitation efforts. He also inspected the national oil distribution control center, where staff are working to resume operations on schedule.
The visit included Qary thermal power station, where the minister reviewed rehabilitation work and obstacles facing the project. He stressed the need to complete work on time, pledging to remove all bottlenecks. He praised Sudanese workers for their expertise, affirming their ability to restore facilities damaged by the rebel militia. He added that the ministry faces the challenge of securing electricity for large sectors of the country to encourage voluntary returns of displaced citizens.
Meanwhile, Khartoum Refinery General Manager Eng. Alaa Eddin Fath Al-Rahman presented an update on operations, outlining a three-year plan and confirming that the refinery is operated entirely by Sudanese staff. He also highlighted company efforts to launch a new refinery to boost domestic petroleum supply.
