The water level of the Dinder River rose to 14 meters on Friday, according to readings from the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources station in Dinder.
Local Emergency Committee Chairman and Executive Director Al-Daw Ahmed Yaqoub attributed the rise to floodwaters from tributaries Al-Atish and Wajawij, which flow into the river via Khor Wad Al-Hassan. The surge caused the collapse of a protective embankment and cut off the eastern Dinder road.
The road closure has worsened hardships for residents and farmers, given its role as a vital trade and agricultural lifeline in the region.
Meanwhile, authorities are reinforcing embankments at the eastern Dinder bridge to prevent further water seepage. Yaqoub inspected the ongoing work, urging workers to intensify efforts to mitigate the crisis. He called on residents to exercise caution and avoid vulnerable areas.
