Washington Imposes Sanctions on Gibril Ibrahim and “Al-Baraa bin Malik” Brigade

The U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions on Finance Minister and Justice and Equality Movement leader Gibril Ibrahim and the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade for playing pivotal roles in the conflict and coordinating with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The sanctions were issued under Executive Order 14098, targeting individuals and entities destabilizing Sudan and undermining democratic transition.

The U.S. State Department stated that the move aims to “limit Islamic influence in Sudan and block Iranian-backed activities fueling regional conflicts and civilian suffering.” It further emphasized that the sanctions hold perpetrators accountable for destruction and send a clear message against the return of Islamists to power in Khartoum.

Washington reaffirmed its commitment to working with regional partners, particularly in the Gulf and Africa, to prevent Sudan from becoming a “safe haven for extremists threatening U.S. citizens and strategic interests.”
