China’s Deputy UN Ambassador Sun Li warned against misusing sanctions as a political tool following the Security Council’s renewal of Sudan’s sanctions regime for another year. He stressed that sanctions are a means, not an end, and should not be abused.
Sun Li called for an immediate ceasefire, mitigation of the humanitarian crisis, and steady progress in Sudan’s political process, urging the international community to uphold Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and support UN and African Union mediation efforts.
