The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced Wednesday that at least 50 Sudanese migrants died Sunday when a boat sank off the coast of Tobruk in eastern Libya, while 24 others were rescued.
An IOM source told AFP the tragedy occurred when a fire broke out on an inflatable boat carrying 75 Sudanese refugees. “At least 50 people lost their lives,” the source said, adding that women and children were among the victims.
