Justice Ministry to Issue Tough Laws Protecting Forces on Duty

Sudan’s Acting Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daim Taha, and Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Derf chaired a high-level meeting at the ministry’s temporary headquarters in Port Sudan to discuss measures to combat mineral smuggling and safeguard the national economy.

The meeting brought together senior representatives from the Ministries of Interior and Federal Governance, the General Intelligence Service, as well as the General Staff, regular forces, the Public Prosecution, and the Director-General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company.

Mohamed Tahir Omar, Director-General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, delivered a comprehensive report detailing the scale of smuggling, encroachments, and tax evasion in the mining sector, with input from several department heads.

The Minister of Minerals stressed that protecting the country’s resources is a shared national responsibility that requires close coordination between judicial, security, and economic institutions to curb losses and boost state revenues.

For his part, the Minister of Justice announced that his ministry is working on issuing strict legislation to protect security forces while performing their duties and to strengthen their capacity.
