Prime Minister: I Will Raise the Siege of Al-Fashir at UN Meetings in New York

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris announced on Saturday that he intends to address the siege imposed on Al-Fashir, North Darfur’s capital, during the upcoming UN General Assembly meetings.

Idris is scheduled to lead Sudan’s delegation to the UN in New York and deliver the country’s statement. According to a reliable source, he will depart for New York next Monday.

During a committee session, Idris appealed to the General Assembly to work toward lifting the siege, stating, “The main issue I will raise in the coming days will be the lifting of the siege.” He also mentioned ongoing communications with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to “mobilize his moral authority and influence to end the siege of Al-Fashir.”

The Prime Minister urged the regional and international community, as well as the UN Security Council, to fulfill their responsibilities and support the initiative to lift the siege, criticizing the international silence on its prolonged duration. He concluded, “We pledge to exert every effort to lift the siege of Al-Fashir, which will happen soon, and the city will remain resilient against aggressors.”
