El Obeid, Sudan-October 5, 2025-military sources belonging to the Sudanese army announced, today, a landmark achievement in the face of air attacks by the Rapid Support forces, as air defense units managed to shoot down 32 suicide drones that were targeting the city of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state. This achievement comes in the context of the escalation of the armed conflict that Sudan has been witnessing since April 2023 between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which has resulted in thousands of victims and the displacement of millions of residents.
According to military reports, the drones were detected through ground-based radars ahead of time, which allowed them to be blown up in the air before reaching their targets, with no casualties and little material damage. Among these aircraft, the defenses shot down two Chinese-made CH95 strategic interceptors, as well as Emirati and Turkish-made ones, in an operation described as”unprecedented” by military officials. The sources confirmed that these attacks were part of an attempted large-scale air attack aimed at destabilizing the region, but the army managed to completely thwart them.
This is the third achievement in two weeks in Al-Obeid, where the army has already shot down 24 more drones in a similar operation, reflecting the readiness of the armed forces and the development of their defense capabilities. In a statement to Taq press, a military source said:”the air defense forces are in a state of full vigilance, and we will continue to respond to any potential threats to maintain the security of civilians. The achievement also praised the efforts of the Fifth Infantry Division ” Haganah”, which played a key role in coordination
On the other hand, local and military sources reported a new attack by suicide drones targeting the city of Kosti, White Nile State, in the late hours of yesterday evening.
Eyewitnesses confirmed hearing the sounds of ground anti-aircraft continuously from the direction of the river port and the perimeter of the command of the 18th Infantry Division, while it is not yet known the size of the losses or the nature of the targets that the aircraft tried to hit.
The sources added that the situation inside the city has returned to relative calm after the air defenses responded to the attack, while the armed forces continue combing operations in anticipation of any additional raids
