Egypt announced on Tuesday its support for advancing a comprehensive political process and a sustainable ceasefire in Sudan.
It stressed that this must be achieved while respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, refraining from interference in its internal affairs, and preserving the state’s national institutions.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty briefed his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, on the results of his visit to Sudan earlier in October.
Abdel Aaty outlined Egypt’s efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire to end the conflict and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid in coordination with the United Nations, its agencies, and international organizations.
On the issue of water security, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed that it represents an existential matter for Egypt. He emphasized the importance of cooperation under international law to safeguard the interests of all Nile Basin countries, while rejecting unilateral actions that contravene international law in the Eastern Nile Basin.
He stressed that Egypt would take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its water security.
