Sovereign Council Member Pledges to Address Farmers’ Outstanding Debts

Dr. Salma Abdeljabbar Al-Mubarak, Member of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, affirmed the significant role of the country’s rain-fed farmers in driving the national economy and achieving sustainable development.

During a meeting in her office with representatives of rain-fed farmers from across Sudan, including those from White Nile State and the eastern region of South Kordofan, Dr. Salma promised to remove existing obstacles, coordinate with relevant authorities, and address key agricultural challenges — particularly financing and farmers’ debts — to ensure a successful agricultural season.

Ghariq Kambal, Deputy Chairman of the Sudan Rain-fed Farmers’ Union, said the meeting focused on the challenges facing the sector, especially gum arabic cultivation. He confirmed that Dr. Salma pledged government support and debt relief for struggling farmers.
