
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris described his visit to Eritrea as “historic” and fruitful on all levels.
Speaking to the press after returning from the Eritrean capital, Asmara, Idris said he met with President Isaias Afwerki and members of his government, including the Foreign Minister.
He added that discussions with President Afwerki took place in a constructive and supportive atmosphere, emphasizing the deep-rooted relations between the two countries. Idris stated, “We expressed our gratitude to the State of Eritrea—its president, government, and people—for the substantial support they provided to Sudan under these exceptional circumstances, and for their generous hosting of Sudanese citizens in Eritrea, who received full respect and care.”
Idris also conveyed greetings and best wishes from Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, to President Afwerki, underscoring the strong fraternal ties between the two nations. He noted that both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination in all regional and international forums, including Sudan’s reintegration into the African Union.
To bolster bilateral cooperation, Idris revealed that both countries agreed to launch joint projects, including establishing major fishing harbors in the Red Sea, gold and oil refineries, and investment initiatives in the mining sector.
Furthermore, they agreed to activate bilateral committees, including the political committee, and to establish a new economic committee tasked with monitoring and implementing all joint projects, alongside security coordination and intelligence cooperation.
Idris expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and popular support he received from the Eritrean people, saying, “We witnessed great enthusiasm and engagement, reflecting the deep ties between our brotherly peoples.” He confirmed that Sudan-Eritrea coordination will continue across all fields to achieve shared interests.
During his visit, he also met with members of the Sudanese community in Asmara, listened to their advice, and discussed the challenges they face, promising solutions.
