German MP Expresses Readiness to Support Peace Efforts in Sudan

The Sudanese government has called on the German parliament to play a constructive role in understanding the complexities of the war imposed on the Sudanese people and the foreign interventions prolonging the conflict.

On Thursday, Sudan’s Ambassador to Germany, Ilham Ibrahim, met with Bundestag member Stefan Mayer, the official spokesperson of the parliamentary bloc of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its partner, the Christian Social Union (CSU).

The meeting discussed recent developments in Sudan, the significant gains achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting units against the “terrorist militia,” and the government’s ongoing efforts to consolidate peace and stability, and facilitate the return of refugees and internally displaced persons.

Ambassador Ibrahim provided a detailed briefing on the humanitarian situation, including violations and crimes committed by the rebel militia. She also reviewed progress on the political front, such as the presentation of a new roadmap, the appointment of Prime Minister Kamal Idris, and the formation of an independent technocratic government tasked with addressing transitional issues, peace, and service restoration.

The ambassador expressed her appreciation for Germany’s continued humanitarian assistance and looked forward to Berlin’s contribution to efforts aimed at restoring normalcy in Sudan.

She also urged the German parliament to play a constructive and understanding role in addressing the complexities of the ongoing conflict and the external interference that has prolonged it.

For his part, MP Stefan Mayer expressed his interest in Sudan’s situation and his readiness to engage positively with the East Africa Parliamentary Bloc to support peace and stability in Sudan, describing the country as an important and strategic state in the Horn of Africa and East African region.
