AU Investigation Report on Human Rights Violations in Sudan to Be Released Soon

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) announced on Saturday that it will publish the findings of its Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan next Tuesday.

Members of the mission and ACHPR commissioners will present the report and brief the media during a press conference in The Gambia.

According to the Commission, the report details alleged human rights violations and abuses committed in Sudan since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, including testimonies, analysis, and recommendations aimed at ensuring accountability and strengthening human rights protections.

The ACHPR said its mission conducted extensive fieldwork over the past year, collecting written and oral testimonies from victims, witnesses, and civil society representatives, while also engaging with authorities and cooperating with international partners such as the UN Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The report, adopted during the Commission’s 84th Ordinary Session (held virtually from 21–30 July 2025), presents legal analyses and recommendations addressed to AU member states and the international community.

The investigation covers cases of enforced disappearance, torture, extrajudicial killings, sexual and gender-based violence, attacks on humanitarian workers and facilities, property destruction and seizure, and forced displacement.
