Sudan, Russia Sign New Oil Investment Agreements

Sudan’s Minister of Energy, Eng. Advisor Al-Mutasim Ibrahim, announced the signing of several new agreements with Russia aimed at boosting cooperation in the energy sector.
Speaking to reporters at Port Sudan Airport upon his return Wednesday from the Russian Federation—where he participated in Russian Energy Week—the minister said the deals focus on expanding hydroelectric power generation, increasing oil production, and attracting new Russian investments in the petroleum sector.
He described the visit as “highly successful,” noting that he met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy, and executives from major Russian electricity and oil firms. “We reached significant understandings on cooperation in both power and oil sectors,” he said.
The two sides agreed for Russian companies to invest in existing oil fields to raise production and to engage in exploration of new ones.
Ibrahim also revealed that the Russian Minister of Energy and several companies are expected to visit Sudan soon to inspect sites and begin implementing the agreed projects, describing them as “a promising step for the Sudanese people.”
He added that the visit was warmly received by the Russian side, which expressed readiness to cooperate with Sudan in hydropower and oil, support training and capacity building, exchange expertise, and assist in refinery maintenance.
