The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that more than 1.2 million people have fled from Sudan to Chad since the conflict erupted in April 2023, including over 300,000 Chadian returnees.
The organization expects the number to rise to 350,000 by December, amid ongoing conflict and worsening food insecurity in the Darfur region.
According to the IOM, most of those arriving in Chad lack the basic resources needed to rebuild their lives and are living in temporary displacement sites or within host communities.
They face severe shortages of food, clean water, sanitation, shelter, and healthcare, alongside urgent needs for humanitarian protection.
The report added that children account for nearly 67% of those who have crossed the border, raising increasing concerns over their health, education, and safety in an environment that lacks essential services.
