Sudanese Mineral Resources Company Stresses Compliance with Environmental and Safety Standards

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company has underscored the need for all companies and workers in the mining industry to strictly adhere to environmental and safety regulations.

The General Directorate for Environment, Safety, and Violations conducted inspection visits to small-scale mining companies in the Red Sea, River Nile, and Northern States. The technical team reviewed the level of compliance with environmental and safety standards and the implementation of the company’s official directives for small-scale miners.

Engineer Hisham Omar Babiker, head of the inspection team, stated that the visit included assessments of mining sites, processing plants, treatment ponds, chemical storage facilities, workshops, camps, and units responsible for chemical and explosives use, extraction, and smelting.

He expressed satisfaction that most companies had designated environment and safety supervisors at their sites. However, he noted some environmental observations had been recorded, stressing the need for corrective action within the agreed timeframe to address all noted issues.

Engineer Hisham added that the organized mining sector’s Environment and Safety Directorate carried out 35 inspection missions from the beginning of 2025 until October—covering 80% of active and upcoming production companies. He said the Directorate plans to complete inspections for the remaining companies before the end of the year.
