Consultations with IMF and World Bank to Resume Support for Sudan

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris received, at his office on Tuesday, a briefing from Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Counselor Mohamed Nour Al-Daem, on the outcomes of the ministry’s delegation visit to the United States. The delegation held a series of meetings with several international financial institutions.

The Prime Minister praised the Ministry of Finance’s efforts toward external engagement, affirming the government’s full support for the country’s drive to restore international cooperation and create a conducive economic environment for sustainable development.

For his part, the Minister of State explained that the visit included key meetings with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Discussions focused on several economic issues concerning Sudan — chiefly debt relief, the possibility of resuming financial and technical assistance, and opportunities for collaboration in development and economic reform.

He noted that the delegation presented a comprehensive overview of Sudan’s economic, social, and health situation, along with the humanitarian and developmental impacts of the ongoing war. He said international institutions showed broad understanding of the immense challenges Sudan currently faces.

Counselor Mohamed Nour Al-Daem added that the World Bank has scheduled a special meeting on Sudan for November 18 to discuss potential support measures and arrangements for resuming suspended projects. He confirmed there is initial consensus on restoring technical engagement and gradually strengthening cooperation with Sudan.

The Minister of State commended the appreciation and cooperation expressed by international partners, noting that the coming phase will witness intensified efforts to rebuild the financial and economic system and enhance technical capacities — reinforcing reform efforts and steering the national economy back on the right track.
