Over 150 Women Subjected to Rape and Sexual Assault During Flight from El Fasher

Adam Regal, spokesperson for the General Coordination of Darfur Displaced Persons and Refugees, reported that more than 150 women were raped or sexually assaulted while fleeing from El Fasher to the Tawila area, west of the city.

According to Regal, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias pursued fleeing civilians along the routes, rounding some up in Garni, where thousands remain stranded — including children separated from their families.

He told Sudan Tribune that over 1,300 people had sustained gunshot wounds, while more than 1,210 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, and 700 elderly people are in critical health condition.

Regal added that over 15,000 survivors from El Fasher have reached Tawila, many in poor physical condition as a result of injuries and violence.

He urged international and humanitarian organizations to urgently provide life-saving medicines, food, safe water sources, shelter materials, and sanitation facilities, as well as psychological support and safe spaces for traumatized children.

Tawila, which has already received hundreds of displaced families in recent months, now hosts more than one million displaced people, underscoring the urgent need for expanded humanitarian assistance.

In a press release on Friday, the Coordination reported that a large influx of displaced persons fleeing the war in El Fasher had also arrived at the Kassab IDP camp, with 193 families in dire need of basic necessities.
