A trilateral meeting was held in Port Sudan on Tuesday between Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem, his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Aaty, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, to discuss humanitarian efforts in Sudan and ways to strengthen the international response.
Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stance in support of Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, rejecting any plans for its division and emphasizing the preservation of national institutions and sovereignty.
He called for enhanced international humanitarian response to ensure aid reaches the most affected groups, and for supporting regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable peace and easing the suffering of the Sudanese people.
Abdel Aaty noted that the humanitarian situation in Sudan receives full attention across Egyptian ministries and agencies under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to provide all available assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese population.
He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Sudan via its maritime, land, and air routes, and praised Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission for its cooperation with international organizations in granting visas and access permits for humanitarian staff — a move welcomed by many international officials.
