Sudan Highlights Its Role at Islamic Standards Meeting in Uzbekistan

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) participated in the 20th General Assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from November 11 to 13, with the attendance of 56 member and observer states and a number of regional and international organizations.
The Sudanese delegation was headed by SSMO Director General Rahba Saeed Abdullah, who noted that Sudan’s participation aimed to strengthen its presence in international standardization forums and benefit from advanced global experience to develop the national quality and standards system, thereby protecting consumers and enhancing the competitiveness of local products in external markets.
The assembly discussed several key issues, including the unification of standard specifications and halal standards, strengthening technical cooperation among member states, reviewing progress on recommendations from the 19th meeting, and approving the 2026 work plan and budget.
Rahba emphasized that participation in this meeting marked an important step in reinforcing Sudan’s role within the Islamic standardization framework and utilizing the leading experiences of member countries to develop Sudan’s quality infrastructure and organizational capabilities. She added that member states expressed support for Sudan’s post-war standardization infrastructure.
The meeting concluded with several resolutions aimed at supporting member states in developing their national standardization systems, strengthening technical cooperation and halal standards, and expanding mechanisms for mutual recognition of conformity assessments, thereby facilitating intra-Islamic trade and improving quality infrastructure across the Islamic world.
