Standards Authority Vows Action Against Violations in Cooking Gas Cylinders

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) in the Red Sea State has carried out intensive inspection campaigns targeting cooking gas distribution centers across the three localities of Port Sudan—Central, Eastern, and Southern—as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance safety, protect consumers, and raise compliance with standard specifications.

The campaign targeted 57 gas distribution sites to review their adherence to technical standards and required safety conditions.

Waleed Mohamed Osman, Director of the SSMO sector in the Red Sea State, affirmed the authority’s commitment to continuing these campaigns to tighten oversight and improve safety levels in the distribution and handling of cooking gas. He noted that inspection teams will continue to monitor the centers to ensure compliance at all stages, in order to safeguard consumer rights.

For his part, Baha Eldeen Kamal, Head of the Industrial and Service Inspection Department, explained that the campaign was carried out by the department’s technical teams, which recorded several technical observations at some distribution sites related to storage and handling practices, in addition to the absence of weighing scales needed to verify the correct weight of gas cylinders. He added that the authority will take the necessary legal action in cases where standards are not met.

Baha Eldeen urged gas distribution center owners to promptly address the technical observations within the specified timeframe and to fully comply with the required conditions, stressing that adherence to standards is a shared responsibility that serves the interests of consumers and business owners alike.
