
Sudanese Sovereignty Council Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on Saturday at Qasr Al-Sharq in Port Sudan. Afwerki received an official welcoming ceremony upon arrival.
The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, activating joint cooperation across multiple sectors, and addressing security, economic, and trade matters. Both sides reviewed the current situation in Sudan, exchanged perspectives on regional issues of shared concern, and explored ways to contribute to peace and stability.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral relations to advanced levels and deepening strategic partnership to meet the aspirations of both nations. They emphasized historical ties and the need to coordinate efforts for regional stability and development.
Al-Burhan expressed appreciation for Eritrea’s support for Sudan’s unity, stability, and sovereignty, highlighting its hosting of Sudanese displaced persons as a testament to strong fraternal relations. Afwerki reiterated Eritrea’s stance supporting Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, rejecting foreign interference, and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in addressing core issues: “Sudan’s stability is a condition for regional stability.”
