Early Sunday, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Ahmed Saleh Ahmed Abboud, arrived in Geneva to lead Sudan’s delegation to the Meeting of States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, held from December 1 to 5.
He was received by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, along with members of the mission.
Preparations have been finalized for Sudan’s side event on the sidelines of the conference, with participation from several organizations and donor countries.
During the event, Sudan will present its new national plan for mine clearance and removal of war remnants—particularly in areas targeted by the “terrorist militia” since the outbreak of the conflict. The plan outlines urgent measures to be implemented in coordination between the National Mine Action Center and the UN Mine Action Service in Sudan.
The delegation is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from participating states.
